I always make a healthy appetizer for my family to enjoy while I make dinner.
I love spicy food but not the sodium. Here is a recipe for homemade taco seasoning that I love. The pre-made packets of taco seasonings in the grocery store have too much sodium and often have MSG or sodium nitrates which are terrible for you. Tip: Make extra! I quadruple this recipe and keep in the cabinet. Ole! Aloha!
Put all ingredients in a bowl or shaker bottle, I use a glass jar with a shaker lid.
Brown a package of extra lean ground turkey in a non stick pan. Add taco seasoning to 1/4 cup hot water and stir. Pour on turkey, mix. Reduce heat to low and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add on top of romaine lettuce leaves instead of fried taco shells. Serve with black beans and side salad. Option: Healthy Burritos: Wrap in whole wheat tortillas with a handful of cheese & chopped lettuce.
